Dab

Limanda Limanda

This small flatfish is a bread and butter fish for the east coast angler and usually the fish fish we catch when we start, its found on banks of mud, gravel and sand and is mainly taken with worm baits. Dab can be distinguished from flounders by a very strongly curved lateral line that rises over the back of the fish, the rough skin texture and a mass of darker speckles on the sandy-brown background.

Tactics

Light tackle and small hooks are the order of the day when targeting dabs. These small flatfish mainly go for worm and shell fish baits. I use 5mm fluorescent beads as attracters this helps in cloudy waters

Eating

Dabs are good to eat I would advise grilling the soon as you get home.
