Belone belone

Garfish are summer visitors they arrive just before the mackerel they are great sport on light float tackle or spinning rig. Fishing from piers and harbour walls produce most of the garfish catches.

Tactics

Light float rig baited with mackerel thin strips fished not deep or a spinning rig with a small French spoon will give the beast chance to catch the distinctive fighters.

Bait

Thin strips of mackerel and live prawn

Eating

Garfish are very good to eat but a little strange, they have green bones. Years ago they feed the invalids with a green stew made from garfish as it was easy to digest.
