FISH
There are many types of fish caught off the east coast some seen only occasionally I have tried to cover the most common fish that you are likely to encounter off the east coast shore. Some very strange fish can be caught in the summer months like the huge Sunfish that looks like its had its tail bitten off. There are one or two fish to be aware of like the Weever that you may catch in the summer months when fishing with small baits and hooks, the spines are venomous and can inflict a nasty painful sting if handled carelessly. The fishes habit of half burying them selves in the sand and are some times trodden on by bathers inflicting nasty sting that is extremely painful and normally have to be treated.
Many fish have defensive gill plates and sharp spines, some of those to look out for are Bass with its spike on its gill plate, Thorn Back rays and of course the Sting Ray that are common on the Essex beaches in the summer months.
